Protect The Pride
Oxfam InternationalOxfam International approached Studio Kohl and Falana Films to design their Pride Month Campaign for June 2023. I was brought on board to direct and animate a 1 minute promotional animation, keeping with the visual language of the campaign.
The campaign aims to highlight and raise awareness about LGBTQIA+ people’s lack of safety and access to protection, and celebrate those who take efforts to protect LGBTQIA+ people from violence online and offline (i.e. LGBTQIA+ communities, chosen families, allies, governments who champion protections for LGBTQIA+ rights or even strangers who intervene and stand up for LGBTQIA+ people in danger).
At the backdrop of this crackdown against LGBTQIA+ rights, Pride Month remains an important moment for LGBTQIA+ community to celebrate and take pride in their history, efforts and power.
An equal future for all is impossible to attain without ensuring LGBTQIA+ people and other vulnerable groups are protected and live free from violence and discrimination.
With many states and non-state actors failing to provide adequate protections for people of diverse SOGIEs and in many cases – actively committing violence against LGBTQIA+ people, it often falls on communities, civil society and chosen families to protect and safeguard LGBTQIA+ people.
The Pride Month campaign focuses on the issue of safety and protection of LGBTQIA+ people. As it is not a reality in many places at the moment, the campaign calls to #ProtectThePride – provide more protections to LGBTQIA+ people online and offline and encourage social norms and practices that foster equality and inclusion.
