Lockdown with Cats

Studio Desk initiated collaborative film

Personal Film

After the outbreak of COVID-19 and the beginnings of global lockdown, Studio Desk Animation sent out a call to animators from around the world to send in a short animation depicting something positive they have experienced, seen, or thought in the midst of this strange time.

Over 90 animators sent us their contributions. My film was part of the third film in a series of three. The series was featured on It’s Nice That, Animation Magazine, Creative Review, Zippy Frames and Cartoon Brew

It had been a tough couple of weeks, and I wanted to capture my gratitude for my partner, and for the cats who kept us company. It began with only Turtle and Pissbomb. Then Turtle had five kittens and they would all visit us. Then Beanz and her kitten Anpan appeared from the peace lilies in our front yard. And then a mystery black cat appeared.

The cats made missing my Ebster, who was back at my parents’ home, a little less painful. Looking back, this was truly a life changing event. Beanz fully adopted us, and gave birth in our home. Even though she is no more, I would have NONE of my sweet babies in my life if she had never walked into our lives.
